April is Volunteer Appreciation Month, and we are sharing the love of our Work Study participants! Throughout the month we will be posting spotlights on social media and the blog so you can get to know our awesome volunteers a little better.
Meet Swati Gopal! She is one of our newest Work Study volunteers!
She says: “Many of us focus on external factors to trigger pleasure and joy. Taking on a project or a challenge that I learn, accomplish, and excel at builds my self-esteem, pride, and sense of empowerment. These internal factors are all linked to happiness, growth, and joy. So I was trying to find something challenging. I've always wanted to learn or take on and build inner strength and joy. I started practicing yoga and learning yoga training. Being on the yoga mat is also an emotional detox so I can return to daily living better empowered to be mindful. I also realized I need to surround myself with like-minded folks. So, I decided to volunteer for One Yoga since being a yogi gives me a safe place and touches my heart, and finding ways to contribute to others gives my life a greater meaning.”
By day, Swati is a Senior IT Consultant for an airline company in the Twin Cities, and by night, she creates healing crystal jewelry! Check out her endeavor Harmoni Hues, which allows her to pursue something she is passionate about while sharing the knowledge she learned from her mother and grandmother. @harmonihue on Instagram.
